Our view of estate planning is ensuring we make all of our decisions while we can, but if we cannot, the right people will be able to fulfill our wishes. Upon our death we want to ensure as much of our estate as possible goes to our intended heirs, in the manner we wish, with as little outside interference from the government or courts as possible. We often want to minimize taxes, attorney fees, probate and related costs.
Estate planning generally includes incapacity planning documents such as a Healthcare Surrogate, Living Will and Durable Powers of Attorney. We will also discuss a Last Will and Testament and how a Revocable Trust or Irrevocable Trusts can fulfill our wishes. Everyone is different and an estate plan should only be as complex as is needed; no more. Simplicity in estate planning is a challenge, but we will make it understandable and give you just want you need; no more, no less.
